From Waitlist to Wharton

I applied to Wharton during second round and got the dreaded “waitlist” email in March.  Ugh, more waiting. I just wanted to know what my future held.  Round 3 came and went and I was still on the waitlist.  By the time summer arrived, I had basically given up hope.  But then I got the phone call that changed my life… “Congratulations, Megan! We have a spot for you in the Wharton class of 2015.”

For me, it was a no brainer.  This is Wharton!  One of the best schools in the world!  This was an opportunity of a lifetime.  I put in my two weeks notice at work the next day.  My parents, on the other hand, were a little concerned about how I would handle the cost.  Foregoing my income and paying about $200,000 for school didn’t sound feasible to them.  But they eventually agreed that having a Wharton MBA on my resume could basically write my ticket anywhere.

That was July. Now it’s September and I’ve already made it through Pre-Term and math camp (I was happy to learn that ~40% of the class had to sit through math camp!), completed my first course and final exam (MGMT 610 is a one week leadership and teamwork course), got all dressed up and attended the Wharton Red & Blue Ball (a fancy party on a boat!), stayed up until 1am working on a MKTG case study with my learning team, won the Flipadelphia flip cup tournament with some amazing new friends, and joined the Women’s Touch Rugby team.

There is so much going on at Wharton at all times. Sometimes it’s overwhelming. Sometimes it’s incredibly fun.  Either way, all I know is that I’m loving every minute of it!

I was born and raised in Philly and I just can’t get enough of this city! I did my undergrad at Penn State (WE ARE!) and then spent ~4 years in pharmaceutical and healthcare consulting. I am so excited to be here at Wharton and to see where this MBA will take me in the future!
